Emergency Overview
Flammable liquid and vapor. May be harmful is swallowed. Vapor
harmful. Prolonged or repeated contact with the skin can cause drying and
defatting. Inhalation of high concentrations of vapor may cause heart
irregularities, unconsciousness or death.
Routes(s) of Entry: Inhalation? Yes Skin? Yes Eyes? Yes
Ingestion? Yes
Potential Health Effects (Acute and Chronic)
ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS
EYES: Contact causes eye irritation.
SKIN: Prolonged or repeated contact can result in defatting and
drying of the skin which may result in skin irritation
dermatitis (rash).
INHALATION: Inhalation may cause dizziness, headaches and irritate
respiratory tract. Inhalation of high concentrations of
vapors may cause heart irregularities, unconsciousness
or death. Vapors reduces oxygen available for breathing.
INGESTION; May be harmful if swallowed. Not considered a potential
route of entry.
TARGET ORGAN EFFECTS;
Central nervous system, heart, lungs.
Recommended Exposure Limits: See Section 2
Signs and Symptoms of Exposure
EYES; Contact produces burning and redness.
SKIN: Irritating to the skin with possible drying and defatting of
the skin.
INHALATION: Vapors or mists, in excess of permissible
concentrations, or in unusually high concentrations
generated from spraying, heating the material or as from
exposure in poorly ventilated areas or confined spaces,
may cause irritation of the nose, throat, headache,
nausea and drowsiness.
INGESTION: May result in severe irritation of the mouth, throat and
stomach.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated By Exposure.
Because of its irritating properties, repeated skin contact may
aggravate an existing dermatitis.
OSHA Hazard Classes:
HEALTH HAZARDS: Irritant
PHYSICAL HAZARDS; Combustible Liquid
TARGET ORGANS & EFFECTS: Lungs, Heart, Eyes, Skin, Central Nervous
System, Respiratory System
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Emergency and First Aid Procedures
EYES: Check for and remove any contact lenses. Immediately flush
eyes with large amounts of water for 15 minutes or until
irritation subsides. Get medical attention if irritation
persists.
SKIN: Wash with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation
develops or persists.
INHALATION: If a person breathes in large amounts of this product,
move the exposed person to fresh air at once. If
breathing becomes difficult, administer oxygen and seek
immediate medical attention. If breathing has stopped,
give artificial respiration, then oxygen if needed.
INGESTION: If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Seek medical
attention.
5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Flash Pt: 110.00 F (43.3 C) Method Used: PMCC
Explosive Limits LEL: No data. UEL: No data
Autoignition Pt: No data
Fire Fighting Instructions
A self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing should
be worn in fighting fires involving chemicals. Containers can build up pressure
if exposed to heat (fire) Keep fire exposed containers cool with water spray.
Vapors are heavier than air and may travel along the ground to some source of
ignition and flashback.
Flammable Properties and Hazard
Extremely Flammable. Material can be ignited by flame or spark at
room temperatures. Vapors can travel to a source of ignition and flash back.
Hazardous Combustion Products
Oxides of carbon, primarily carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and
incompletely combusted hydrocarbons.
Extinguishing Media
Dry Chemicals, CO2 or Alcohol Resistant Foam.
Unsuitable Extinguishing Media
No data available.
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Steps to Be Taken In Case Material Is Released Or Spilled
Ventilate area. Avoid breathing vapor. Eliminate all sources of
ignition. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including respiratory
protection. Contain spill if possible. Wipe up or absorb on suitable
material and shovel up. Keep out of sewers and drains. Avoid contact with
skin, eyes, and clothing.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Hazard Label Information:
WARNING! Vapors are flammable. Harmful if swallowed.
Precautions To Be Taken In Handling
Avoid breathing harmful vapors. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and
clothing. Do not puncture or incinerate. Keep out of reach of children. Use
proper grounding methods when transferring material from containers.
Precautions To Be Taken in Storing
Store in cool well ventilated area away from heat, sparks, open
flame, or other sources of ignition.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
Respiratory Equipment (Specify Type)
Use in a well ventilated area. Use NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator if
levels of air contamination is likely to exceed allowable levels.
Eye Protection
Safety glasses, chemical safety goggles or face shield recommended to
prevent eye contact.
Protective Gloves
Rubber or neoprene gloves is recommended.
Other Protective Clothing
Boots, aprons, or coveralls as necessary to prevent skin contact.
Engineering Controls (Ventilation etc.)
Adequate to meet occupational exposure limits. See Section II.
Work/Hygienic/Maintenance Practices
Do not smoke while using. Wash hands after use. Use good personal
hygiene at all times.
